Joe Friday Award

The award is named in honor of the late Joe Friday, an Ojibway Indian and close friend to staff founder of the YMCA-Indian Programs, Harold S. Keltner.

Today at the Induction Ceremony I was honored by receiving this award. Today was one of the best days of my life.. Here was the speech that was given.

Joe Friday was an Ojibway Indian, He was the main inspiration of Harold S. Keltner who founded this organization back in 1926.
So we give out an award once a year in his honor. This award goes out to an Officer who has gone above and beyond his regular elected duties. This Officer has been there to help out all year. Whether it was to collect pallets for the Council Fires or help out at all the recruiting rallies. We never had to ask him to help he would come to us and ask what time do we need to be there. I personally asked him for help “probably weekly” to send out extra reminders to everyone. Other times he took it upon himself to get the word out to everyone whenever it was nessasary. Even though his position was Asst. Running Waters Editor He took on the role of Editor a few months into the year always making sure the news letter was correct and on time. While always keeping in mind what was right for the organization.

2008 Adventure Princess Boat Race

We got our boat kit about 2.5 months ago. It consisted of a main base, 2 out riggers, 6 Popsicle sticks, a sail and a mast. The final piece of the boat was a special piece that shows that you bought the boat this year, and that was a purple star. So Morgan and I waited to the last minute to put it together. I asked her how she wanted to decorate her boat. She stated a Christmas tree (Christmas in July). So she drew on the sail a Christmas tree, holly and presents. We went to a local craft store and found items to put on there. We found a small plate of cookies with a note to Santa. We also found small ornaments and presents to put on the sail. So Morgan won 3rd place in best decorating of our territory.

They have a Trail boss race at the end and the boats can be powered. Here is the picture of the winning race. Notice the boat on fire.

Adventure Princess Car Race

Today we had the Adventure Princess Car Race and Family Fair. We are given a special piece that has to be on the car. This year we had the choice of 3 different pieces a basketball, baseball or a soccer ball.. We picked soccer because that is Morgan's sport. Here is the car.

We also had a game so we can earn money for out Outpost. We are going to the Planetarium with the money we have raised in the past. We did "The Wheel of Destiney". The girls get to put 2 quarters down on faces of AP Officers. She spins the wheel and if it stops on one of the people she picked she wins a big prize. If it did not the she was able to pick a ring, pen or a peice of candy.

I was asked to help out on the Water balloon toss.. I am the one behind the wire and Morgan is the one throwing the balloons at me.
