My Rant.. Weight Loss Secret..

Everyday I see on TV or hear on the radio some new weight loss secret.. Last
night it was people taking some pill that is meant for horses and it is
causing them to loss weight.. So I have search far and wide for the secret..
Are you ready? Are you sure you can handle this.. Now I know I should not be
telling you the secret because it took me a lot of searching to find it but
I figure since it is just between you and me it will be alright.. So here it
goes. Come a little closer.. Closer.. a little more. Here is the secret.
Burn more calories then you consume.. Did you get that? I will say it
again.. Burn more calories then you consume.. How do you do that?

First.. Exercise.. I don't mean that you have to join a gym, run 20 miles a
day, do sit-ups for 2 hours.. All you have to do is something more to start
off with than you did yesterday. So you don't walk very much.. Take 1/2 hour
to do a brisk walk a day.. Buy a pedometer and see how many steps you take a
day and increase that number. That is the first step. Doing some sort of
exercise.. Did you know that muscles burn more calories then fat.. So if
you start building muscles through exercising you will burn calories when
you are not exercising..

Second.. consume less calories.. I am not saying that you have to go to a
700 calorie diet.. Just smaller portions to start off with.. Late night
snacking instead of going for the chips go for the carrots.. OK.. you say
you still want the chips. Put a few in a bowl and that is what you can
have.. You should NEVER eat out of the bag.. You should never pick at food..
Because you don't really see how much you are eating.. Eat more smaller
meals so you will not feel hungry.

Third... Set goals.. Not lofty goals like I want to lose weight. I want to
be in better health.. Put a number next to it.. I want to lose 10 pounds..
Now put a date next to it.. I want to lose 10 pound in a month. I want to be
able to run a mile with out dying. Set small goals you can achieve and
longer goals that will keep you motivated..
So stay away from the horse pills, diet pills and any quick fix. It is not
going to easy or quick.. But how long did it take you to gain the weight.
You did not wake up this morning 20 pounds heavier then you were yesterday.
You will not wake up 20 pounds lighter tomorrow..

January 2nd Workout #002-07

It was actually nice getting back to the routine of going to work. I didn't feel like going to the gym this morning. I mean I drove there and kept going and drove to work. I was able to go after work.. I did 10 minutes on the Versa climber, then 30 minutes on the Arc trainer and lastly 20 minutes on the stair climber. I have a month and a day before the race up the galleria building. I had 10,128 steps on my pedometer for the day. .Not bad.. I have already dropped a couple of pounds..

January 1st Workout 001-07 & Fitness Goals

Well it is the start of a new year. Being that I failed on all of my goals for last year I had to think why this happened.. I could use a lot of excuses, such as being injured for 5 weeks, But here are my thoughts..
1. I was not accountable because I stopped writing it down. If no one knows then nobody can say anything. So I will be blogging every day. 2. My goals were set too long, meaning that I thought I could catch up. I didn't have any short term goals. 3. They were not specific enough..
So here it goes..

1. Cycling - To have over 1200 miles
1.a To be out on my bicycles at least 2 times a month in the winter months.
1.b To do the century ride. Hopefully it will be the Tour De Cure in June.
1.c To do at least 3 night rides

2. Weight - to be 190 or less.
2.a To use FitDay again to track what I eat. Again if it is not written down I am not tracking it.

3. Steps - to walk over 3,000,000 foot steps this year (approximately 250,000 per month). It is recommended that you take 10,000 steps a day. I will include Cycling and spin classes (the pedometer should work if not I will need to adjust this or factor in the approximant steps by average cadence and time).

4. Workouts - over 300 workouts of 1/2 hour at a time (walking for exercise is included).
4.a - Take over 70 spin classes this year.
4.b - Try to make each workout to be at least an hour.

Workout 001-07 Kim, Morgan and I went to the park to walk. They walked for about a half hour then took the car home. I continued to walk the all purpose trail and then walked back home. The number of steps for the day is 10, 854.

Good Bye 2006

I did not reach any of my fitness goals this year. I am upset about that.. I have gained some weight back. I rode only 1100 miles (Goal 1200) and worked out only 262 times (Goal 280). Yes I was injured this year but I still should have been able to acheive each one of my goals.

I will be posting my goals for 2007 soon..

12-26-06 Went to the gym after Kim got home from work.. I did

12-25-06 Worked out today after opening presents. I worked out with weights.

12-24-06 Didn't make it to the gym today.. Time just ran away.. We had family over for Christmas eve. Kim opened up her Christmas gift, it was a fir pit. We were outside using it for about 4 hours.. We had a great time.. Maybe this will be a new Tradition..

12-23-06 Worked out today at the gym. I should have done stairs today but just did cardio on the arc trainer.

12-22-06 Spin Class today. We saw a Elvis impersonator he was very good.

12-21-06 Worked out today.. I did the nautilus, elliptical and sat in the steam room for 10 minutes. My legs and arms hurt because I am not used to working out with the weights again. It is amazing how soon you loose muscle mass. If Kim does not want to go tonight I may try to get back in to do some cardio. I signed up to do the Tackle the tower.

12-20-06. I didn't get up early enough to get to the gym today. We made about 7 dozen Rum balls for my sister's office party in the tonight.

12-19-06 Worked out today. I got up late to do the spin class that I wanted to do. I figured I would just not go but I got up and drove to the gym. I did cardio for 50 minutes on the arc trainer and sat in the steam room for 10 minutes 13

12-18-06. Worked out with nautilus & steam room. 12

12-17-06 Went over my parents for Hanukah. We had a nice time. Went walking over to see some lights. It took an hour so I consider that a work out. 11

12-16-06 Did the stairs at Crowne Centre. I only did it 5 times. 10
